Stressing over Rest Days

My trip to Vegas is right around the corner and I leave on Friday morning bright and early. I remember when we booked this trip I was stressing out about how I was going to deal with missing some of my workouts. Well, I am still flustered, if not more flustered because I will not really be able to do anything over the weekend. This has me a little worried since I have decided to race the full 70.3 at Kinetic which is the following weekend. Yes, I know it would be a taper weekend, but I would still be riding my bike, not sipping on a drink by the pool. Which brings me to being worried about eating bad all weekend and just in general feeling more tired/sluggish when I return on Monday. My flight does not come back in until mid-night and I just hope I'm not playing catch up the rest of the week.

I plan on doing the following this week before I leave:

Monday:
Run AM - 45 minutes (5.8 miles)
Swim PM - 1 hour (3000 meters) - oh and it was such an awesome swim!

Tues:
Bike: 1:45 - 2 Hours (interval work at Haines)
Run: short 20 minute brick run

Wen:
Run AM - 90 minutes - hope to fit in my last long run before work - 10-11 miles.
Swim PM - 1 hour
Hair - also hope to get my hair cut and highlighted :) I need to look fancy for Vegas :) plus well I haven't got my hair cut since nov.

Thurs:
Bike - 2 hours (maybe ride at greenbelt?)
Run - 10-15 minute brick

Friday - Monday = nothing or maybe a short run in the Vegas heat. I'm also still in search of somewhere I could swim? I know there is a ton of pools there, but no lap pools and I will not have a car. I wish my flight wasn't so early so I could swim on Friday before we left. 7AM flight out BWI = stupid!

Anyhow, I am sure I will survive the rest days and still do fine at Kinetic. I am just nervous since it is my first 70.3 and well I just feel rushed since originally I was only going to do the aqua-velo here.

Blah Blah Blah ... yes I know I am rambling.

Happy Tues All :)

  2. I knew Victoria would come through with a pool for you :)

You can do laps in a hotel pool, too. Just go super early and go by time instead of distance.

Relax and have a GREAT trip!!

  3. I do the same thing. I've announced no vacations until IM is over in NOV!!!!! :-) but don't worry you'll be fine, the decision has been made so enjoy it, and go prepared so that you don't stress about eating right etc... Have fun!

  4. You'll do GREAT! I'm always on edge before a race, especially when it's a new distance I'm not used to. Just remember to relax and enjoy the ride.

  6. In the week or so before the race, rest is OK, especially for a half-you've already done most of the hard work. I've missed a few workouts this week because I've been sick and I have a half this weekend, but getting enough rest is more important than the workouts at this point. Make sure you rep LOTS next week-you will be just fine
